🥌 What to Expect at Coyotes Curling Club

Welcome to the Coyotes Curling Club — Arizona’s only dedicated curling facility! Whether you’re new to curling or just curious, here’s everything you need to know before stepping on the ice.

👕 What to Wear & Bring

You don’t need special equipment — we provide everything!

  • Wear: Warm, flexible clothes (around 40°F on ice), long pants (no jeans), light jacket, gloves optional.
  • Bring: Clean sneakers, water bottle, and a great attitude!

🧊 Safety & Rules Basics

  • Step carefully — no running or jumping on the ice.
  • Use a gripper foot when walking; only slide when instructed.
  • Keep stones on the ice and brooms down when not sweeping.
  • No food or drinks on the playing surface.

🥌 What a First Session Looks Like

  1. Welcome & Orientation (10-20 min): Meet our USCA certified coach’s and get fitted with equipment.
  2. On-Ice Introduction (15-30 min): Learn balance, delivery, sweeping, and safety basics.
  3. Game Time (45-60 min): Play a couple ends with help from instructors.
  4. Wrap-Up: Relax in the warm room or at the Broken Broom Lounge and celebrate your first game!

📖 Curling Terms You’ll Hear

  • House: The target circles on the ice.
  • End: A round of play (like an inning).
  • Hammer: The final stone advantage.
  • Skip: The team captain who directs play.
  • Sweeping: Brushing the ice to control speed and curl.
  • Bonspiel: A curling tournament!

💡 Tips for Your First Visit

  • Arrive 15 minutes early to sign in and change shoes.
  • Listen to your coach — they’re there to help.
